It's that time of the week again - time for Peepli Live on Netflix! This is one of my favorite Indian movies, and though it is set in 2011, I still enjoy watching this movie over and over. It is a very funny movie that I think everyone should watch at least once because it's hard not to laugh during some scenes. Peepli Live tells the story about two undertakers who are trying to be reinvigorated by doing business outside their area of expertise. They do not know anything about agriculture or farming, which leaves them to try to scam farmers at an auction held by a community leader. Every year the farmers of their town gather to sell their harvested crops to local businessmen. The farmers usually don't know how much their crops are worth, so they trust the community leader to judge them fairly. However, the businessmen outbid each other until the community leader says that they have reached market price. The businessman with the most money gets to take home all of the crops. This year, Natha and Budhia want to make a profit by scaring off other businessmen with an inflated price. They are the only greater fools available since they are not familiar with agriculture or farming either. So in a bid to scare off the other businessmen, they demand a million rupees in cash in their bid to take a forest of crops. However, they end up losing all that money and also get into an argument with the community leader. One of the villagers, Chotu, is convinced that Peepli will get them rich money and he helps them get on track with their plan by getting them an agriculture expert (Vinayak) and a weaver (Kabir). The next day, he goes to the community leader and tells him that his family is being threatened by Peepli's family. The community leader then allows Chotu to talk to Peepli. The two families are currently in an argument about their land rights, which will be settled by the government at a later date. Both families want the land for agricultural purposes- so whichever family gets it will have it for free. Peepli's father claims that he has 50 saw mills, two helicopters, 15 cars and 7 palaces in Dubai. He believes that if they continue arguing with this rich guy for their land, they'll eventually get what they want. Peepli is determined to change the status quo of their lives and farm for a living. He believes that by switching to agriculture they will be able to earn enough money to send their children abroad. Peepli stops this argument by lying that he is getting his land for free now since his father has taken care of it. Since Chotu helped them, the family now owes him. After Peepli's speech, Chotu tells them that they can no longer live in the village anymore so he tells them about the business idea they discussed earlier. cfa1e77820
