While you could read a book cover-to-cover, many people prefer to skim or browse, always finding something intriguing. You can find links to National Book Foundation’s bibliographies on the subject of biology. They will provide you with lists of books and essays about various aspects of biology, as well as links to other bibliographies and resources. The National Book Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 1996 by authors Eudora Welty and Robert Penn Warren which celebrates the best books for children and teens by awarding the National Book Awards each year and other initiatives. National Book Foundation provides a list of books and links to lists of recommended titles, such as the most recent Young People’s Literature finalists and winners; most recent Young Readers’ Literature finalists and winners; Notable Books for a Global Society; Notable Books for an International Audience; lists of Children’s Choice titles for five overseas markets (UK, Canada, Jordan, Cuba and Australia); and lists for several states. National Book Foundation is committed to helping children develop a love of reading by engaging them through literacy programs. It sponsors the National Book Awards as an annual literary award program. The Foundation's stated goal is to encourage and promote the best that children's and young adult literature has to offer and to ensure that books for children and teens continue to be important, vital, and at the center of our national literary conversation. The National Book Foundation serves as the national program administrator for the United States awards programs for young people's literature. The Young People’s Literature Award (YPL) honors books published in English by U.S. authors aged 9 through 12; the National Book Award (NBA) honors books published in English by U.S. authors aged 6 through 17; the Ambassador for Young People’s Literature Award (AYPL) honors books published in English for young people by American authors who are not U.S. citizens. The National Book Awards are presented annually to the best books written for children and teens published in English during the previous year. The Young People’s Literature Award is administered by the National Book Foundation, while the other awards are administered by their sponsoring organizations, i.e., YALSA, NCTE, Pfeiffer, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and Saylor Publications, respectively. The National Book Awards for 2012 were announced on November 14, 2011, at the annual National Book Awards Ceremony and Benefit Dinner at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. The annual ceremony is headed by Neil Genzlinger, the children's and YA book critic of "The New York Times". In his blog he tells readers about the books that have been nominated. In 2009, National Book Foundation launched a new literary award for Notable Children’s Books from around the World. The purpose of this award was to honor a book originally published in a foreign language in a country other than the United States that had not previously been considered by the committee for an American version of this award. cfa1e77820
